Microsoft buys Chrono series, news retracted- Say wha?!

 by Mike

Xboxic had a story that hit the web along with others, that reported on Microsoft buying the Chrono series, with Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger prime candidates for XBLA. There was even the news that a NEW next-gen Chrono game was in the works. Then, “POOF” in a puff of smoke, it disappeared. Seeing as this is Microsoft were talking about here and let’s face it most if not all of their news is true, along with the fact that Xboxic is a pretty damn reputable news source this leaves us scratching our heads going hmmm. Did somebody pull the trigger too soon and have a bout of pre-mature geek ejaculation? Who knows but a new Chrono game or even the classic on the LIVE ARCADE service would certainly have a lot of gamers swooning.

  1. o_O

best news I’ve ever read. But to do the game justice you’ll need more then just Hironobu Sakaguchi. You’ll also need Kazuhiko Aoki, Yuuji Horii and artist Akira Toriyama to jump on board the project.

yes, bring Toriyama’s work back to the series.

  2. That would have been SO AWESOME!!!!

  3. It’s not going to happen; and if I remember correctly, Square-Enix ditched this rumor like Capcom ditched the “Microsoft bought us rofl” rumor.

If you don’t remember, the odds of a Chrono sequel/remake are very, very slim because of ho complicated the right to Chrono Trigger really is. A new entry might be plausible, but even Square-Enix admitted it would be too difficult to reunite the original team to get them to work on a new entry.
